Dr. Kenneth Akizuki is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery. He graduated from The George Washington School of Medicine in 1993 and went on to complete his residency with the San Francisco Orthopedic Residency Program from 1995-1999. Following his passion, he moved to New York to complete the James A. Nicholas Sports Medicine Fellowship at Lenox Hill Hospital. During his fellowship, he served as the Assistant Orthopedic Consultant for the New York Jets Football Organization, the New York Rangers Hockey Organization, the New York Islanders Hockey Organization, and the New Jersey Red Dogs Football Organization. In 2000, he moved back to San Francisco and established himself in the Bay Area medical community. He began serving as the team physician for the San Francisco Giants Baseball Organization, a position he still holds to date. His notoriety in the sports medicine world and his passion for sports also earned him the position of team orthopedist for San Jose Giants, the Academy of Art University, as well as the team physician for the University of San Francisco and Skyline University. In addition, he is an Orthopedic Consultant for Santa Clara University, SF State University and the City College of San Francisco. 

 

Dr. Akizuki has also held multiple advisory and speaking positions. He is an active member and the immediate past president of the Medical Advisory Committee for Major League Baseball. He was subcommittee chairman of the NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguard and Medical Aspects of Sports and was awarded recognition by the National Athletic Trainers Association at their annual Far West meeting. He lectures at the University of California, San Jose State University, and has presented at the Major League Baseball Winter Meetings, and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons annual meeting. 

 

One of Dr. Akizuki’s most recent accomplishments has been pursuing his passion of bringing education to the sports medicine community by hosting annual SF Giants Sports Medicine Conferences where trainers, coaches, athletes, and sports medicine professionals can share their experiences and expertise with each other. Outside of work, Dr. Akizuki enjoys attending live sporting events, traveling, and playing guitar.
